A FRESH TAKE ON A TRADITIONAL HOME

KITCHEN RENOVATION

Type: Renovation

Location: Suchville, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico

Year: 2021

Status: Built

Design Team:  Armando Rigau, Silvana Herrera, Ryan Glick, Claudia Jean

Collaborators: CMP Multiservices LLC (Contractor)

Description: Reacting against the enclosed, dark, and gloomy existing kitchen, the design strategy looked at establishing a more dynamic relationship with the surrounding rooms. Windows were replaced and a new opening was cut between the kitchen and the living room, creating a sense of openness and allowing for natural light infiltration. The quartz countertop, white cabinets with black pulls, and linear light fixture introduce a modern feel that contrasts with the highly decorative floor pattern, reminiscent of traditional Puerto Rican tile design.
