who are we?

At D-LOGIC STUDIO, we embrace architecture as a dialogic medium by which to reflect on our mutually shared spaces – from the intimate scale of the home to the multifaceted interactions within a city. We seek to enrich the social dynamics that both shape and are shaped by our surrounding environments through projects that range from abstract proposals to built structures. Our team brings together a diverse range of complementary interests, skills, and experiences, which provide us with a strong basis in critical thinking, problem solving, and technical detailing. While our involvement in teaching continually serves as a vehicle to explore and test architectural ideas, our professional experience further enriches our work with practical construction expertise. By bridging theory and application, we nurture a close-knit relationship between ideas and practice to continually rethink the possibilities of architectural design. We’re constantly seeking fresh perspectives that drive our creative process to craft spaces that foster meaningful connections between people and their environments.

ARMANDO RIGAU

REGISTERED ARCHITECT, CAAPPR, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C

Armando Rigau (b. San Juan, Puerto Rico) holds a Master of Architecture I from Cornell University, where he received the Alpha Rho Chi Bronze Medal, and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with minors in History and Spanish Literature from Georgetown University.

A licensed professional and academic, he is currently practicing architecture and design out of Puerto Rico. His experience derives from both practice and teaching opportunities that span an assortment of types, including buildings, interiors, master plans, products, graphics, and publications.

Previously, Rigau served as a Lecturer and as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the College of Architecture at Texas Tech University, where he taught design, theory, and construction courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He co-led a summer study abroad program in Berlin, Germany and the inaugural semester abroad program in Sevilla, Spain. Rigau additionally served as faculty editor and adviser for the College's student and faculty journal CROP.

Before arriving at Texas Tech in 2017, he was a practicing architect at Perkins+Will Miami. Over a 4-year span, he worked on local and international projects across a variety of sectors, including academic buildings, research facilities, and mixed-use developments. In 2016, he was recognized firm-wide as a Next-Generation Emerging Designer. While in Miami, Rigau also taught undergraduate design studios as an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University. Other work experiences include positions at Jorge Rigau Arquitectos in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at Capella García Arquitectura in Barcelona, Spain, and an editorial internship at the journal Log.

His research interests draw from critical methods in architectural history, continental philosophy, and Latin American literature to question the relationships between design, theory, and practice. Current subjects under scrutiny involve affect theory in architecture, art, and philosophy, particularly through the thinking of Peter Sloterdijk and Martin Heiddeger, to re-evaluate architectural formal analysis as interpreted by theorists like Colin Rowe and Peter Eisenman.

SILVANA HERRERA

REGISTERED ARCHITECT, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Silvana Herrera (b. Bucaramanga, Colombia) received two Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Florida International University, and a Master of Science in Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design Research (ITECH) from the University of Stuttgart. During her sojourn in Stuttgart, she delved into advanced digital design techniques and robotic fabrication technologies in architecture.

As a student, Silvana worked as a teaching and research assistant, producing projects and publications related to green technology and construction. She received a number of awards, including the University Graduate School Provost Award for Outstanding Creative Project in the Arts, the Award of Excellence from the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and the AIA Henry Adams Medal Academic Excellence Award.

As a licensed architect, Silvana has had the opportunity to work on a wide range of state-of-the-art projects, where she has played a leading role in the design and delivery processes. Before joining D-LOGIC Studio, Silvana practiced architecture for over five years as an Associate Project Designer at Perkins+Will, Miami, working in projects of local and international scope. She was recognized firm-wide as a Next-Generation Emerging Designer.

She has taught a summer design studio in Berlin, Germany for Texas Tech University and another studio abroad in Genoa, Italy for Florida International University. In both cases, the pedagogy focused on how to read architecture through field drawing, identifying key elements and design strategies in significant works of architecture. Most recently, she taught design studio online at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Her research interests range from representation, diagramming, building technology, sustainability, and resiliency to computational design, robotic fabrication, and advanced material technologies in architecture.
